  An elderly Nigerian man refused to be intimidated and fought it out with a police officer who allegedly assaulted him. The man is seen clutching on to the police officer’s uniform and vowing to teach him a lesson while continuously questioning what gave him the right to smack him in a video that has gone viral. Passersby intervened and begged the elderly man to let the officer go, but the embittered man turned deaf ears until other police officers intervened.   A young Nigerian lady, Safiyanu Amira, who raised a false kidnap alarm on Twitter a few days ago, has confessed that nothing of the sort happened and apologized to Nigerians. Amira had, in a series of tweets, alleged that she and 17 other victims were abducted at gunpoint from different parts of Abuja last Tuesday by men in uniform and driven off in a van and later separated into two groups. She had also tweeted the locations of the alleged kidnappers, claiming they were unaware that she was with a phone.     A young Nigerian lady identified as Aduke took to her WhatsApp status to plead for justice after her boyfriend, Fatai gathered a couple of his friends and flogged her mercilessly in their presence, over claims that she was cheãting on him. Aduke, who is a HND1 student of Bartholomew College of Health Shao, Kwara State, revealed to her friends that the incident occurred at Fatai’s residence. He told her that he prefers his food to be prepared fresh every day and that he dislikes the idea of warming or microwaving meals.     Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested suspected vote buyers in Ekiti during the gubernatorial election today, June 18. The suspects arrested included an elderly woman and some young men caught with money allegedly used to induce voters. Channels TV reports that some people were also arrested at a private residence with a book containing details of voters in a certain voting area.     The leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU have said its members are not beggars and hunger won’t force them to call off their strike. ASSU has been on strike since February 14 following the failure of the Federal government to meet their demands. After the expiration of the one-month warning strike they embarked on in February, the union announced another eight-week strike before it eventually commenced its indefinite strike. The ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, in a statement released commended members of the union for not backing down from the strike despite the no work, no pay policy by the Federal government. June 5 was a Black Sunday for Nigerians after gunmen invaded the church and shot sporadically at worshippers, leaving scores dead and others injured. The remains of those killed in the attack including men, women and children, have been buried in the state.
