  The Indigenous People of Biafra are protesting the move to name the second River Niger Bridge after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The group, in a statement on Monday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said it rejects naming the bridge after Buhari, “because he came to power and completely sidelined its people.” The group claimed that under Buhari’s watch, South-East youths have been slaughtered by security agents with reckless abandon. IPOB said the bridge should rather be called ‘Achuzie Bridge” or any other accomplished Igbo patriots, adding that no Igboman has been named after any big project in the North. The group said, “Under his watch, terrorists masquerading as Fulani herdsmen have invaded our communities killing innocent men and women after destroying our farms with their cows.” The group also debunked the allegation by the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, that IPOB disturbed the construction of the second Niger Bridge.   Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, has admitted that the Nigerian government has knowledge of the identity of bandits and their camps. Speaking on Wednesday in reaction to the attack by bandits of an Abuja-Kaduna train on Monday evening, the governor said authorities also listen to the conversations of the armed groups terrorising the North-West. According to El-Rufai; “We know where their camps are. We know their camps, we have the maps; we know everything. We have their phone numbers and listen to their conversation sometimes. But it has to be done across the five states”. The governor who noted that the Nigerian military was originally reluctant to bomb the camps of the bãndits to avoid civilian collateral damage, added that since a competent court has declared them terrorists, the rule of engagement has changed.   Nigerians have been asked to raise funds for the treatment of patients who sustained injuries in Monday night’s attack on a train heading to Kaduna from Abuja, the nation’s capital. Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, made the appeal on Wednesday, during a visit to victims who are being treated at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna State. He revealed that the Nigerian Army did not charge the patients for the treatment. Amaechi pleaded with citizens to contribute money to enable the hospital continue with advanced treatment as some of the patients who have bullets in their body may need surgery. He said, “They said they have only seven (patients) left and the rest have been discharged. The ministry, and I think the federal government, are grateful to the Nigerian Army for providing such services. But one thing I have said to the Nigerian people is to liaise with the hospital management and see how much money they can contribute for the treatment of the patients.”

  Nigerian comedian and skit-maker, Debo Adedayo better known as Mr Macaroni, has shared a video showing the moment he reenacted a popular scene from his skits. Lekki residents on Wednesday, March 30, met over the planned reopening of the tollgate and resumption of tolling at the Ikoyi bridge.   A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to tender a public apology to her ex-boyfriend weeks after accùsing him of domestic viólence. The lady identified on Twitter as @Adura_x had accüsed her ex, @Dondekojo of domestic viólence few weeks ago. She claimed he physically assaulted her during a quarrel after confronting him for allègedly cheãting on her with another lady on Twitter. Adura said he tore her shirt and in self defence, she picked up a knife. At the time, the man had pleaded his innocence and said that he installed CCTV camera in his room which proves that what happened is contrary to what his ex-girlfriend narrated, but there were divided opinions on who to believe.   A Nigerian man, Olaseni Odukoya, came online to call out someone he borrowed N750,000 since 2021 and has refused to pay all back. The debtor only repaid N300,000 of the borrowed sum, asking Olaseni to draft a letter for a N90,000 monthly repayment. Many Nigerians who reacted to Olaseni's post asked him to deal with the debtor in such a way that will put him in check A Nigerian man, Olaseni Odukoya, on Thursday, March 31, went on Twitter to reveal the challenges he has been having in recovering the N750,000 he loaned out. Austin Eguavoen has resigned as Super Eagles Head Coach following the failure of Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Brila FM who broke the news said Eguavoen has sent an official resignation letter to the NFF. The Sports radio said Eguavoen will now return to his role as Technical Director of all national teams. However, the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, is yet to release an official statement. Nigeria played 1-1 draw with Ghana inside Moshood Abiola National stadium Abuja, but could not go through due to away goal deficit.   Reports coming out of Kenya suggest that a suspected thief climbed a street light pole to save his life after a mob nearly descended on him. It was gathered that the incident occurred in Meru County, where the robber climbed to the top of a street light to escape beating. An eyewitness known on Twitter as @KIFARUreloaded claims the thief stayed on the pole for two days as a crowd gathered and waited for him to come down. He shared a photo showing the man lying comfortable while surrounded by a group of people patiently waiting. ”A thief climbs and stays on the street light pole in Meru for two days to escape beating.   The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that he warned about possible attãcks on the rail line and tracks that could lead to loss of lives and property before the Abuja-Kaduna terror attack that claimed lives on Monday. To prevent this, the minister noted that he had requested for necessary digital security and crime prevention equipment that could forestall such disaster, but was not approved. Briefing journalists after visiting the scene of the incident on Tuesday, the minister expressed dissatisfaction over the incident, which he claimed, could have been averted with relevant digital security equipment in place.   A doping doctor with the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Dr. Joseph Kabungo died shortly after Ghana stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday, March 29. Kabungo, a Zambian medical practitioner, was said to have died as a result of the stampede that occurred at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja before the commencement of the match.  However, another account blamed fans’ invasion of the pitch after the match for the doctor’s death.  Punch newspaper reports that neither officials of the Nigeria Football Federation nor CAF have confirmed the doctor’s death.  The BBC reports that the Federation of International Football Associations will take a dim view of scenes at the Abuja stadium that requires considerable explaining from both Nigerian security and football officials.
